ALISHAN RAILWAY
A comprehensive structural analysis and ride comfortability test to ensure safety and comfortability of the Alishan railway under real-world operational loads.
OVERVIEW & KEY CAPABILITIES
TOPU’s Railway Vehicle Structural Analysis service includes body structural crashworthiness and bogie strength evaluation. In the ride comfortability test, we combined strategic accelerometer placements on the seats and flooring, microphone and multi-channel DAQ systems, to validate the ride comfortability according to UIC 513 standards.
INDUSTRY VALUE & IMPACT
The goal of crash simulation is to minimize structural deformation of the entire train in case of an event of a head-on collision with a mountainside. This service bridges the gap between CAE simulations and real-word crashworthiness. By pinpointing high-deformation regions early in the body structure development, it prevents costly re-works, streamlines type certification, and accelerates time to market. The ride comfort measurements offer data for evaluating the anti-vibration design of seats and complete vehicles, especially for the Formosensis train which is a new, premium tourist train on the Alishan Railway of Taiwan.
VALIDATION & EMPIRICAL RESULTS
The methodology establishes fully traceable test data and technical reports for vehicle acceptance and type testing. Developed in collaboration with YU XIANG MACHINERY Co., Ltd., the service achieved major project milestones with the completion of structural analysis and testing in early 2024.
