This project focuses on addressing the thermal management challenges of battery-swapping electric scooters. In such scooters, the battery pack is installed inside the under-seat storage compartment. When the state of charge (SOC) of the battery is low, users can ride to a nearby swapping station to quickly replace it. However, during high-rate discharge while riding or rapid charging, the battery cell temperature can rise significantly. The generated heat is then transferred through the metal out-casing of the battery to the air inside the storage compartment.
Cooling fans are designed to expel the battery heat accumulated in the storage compartment to the outside, once the thermal sensor detects high temperatures inside the battery. The simulation shows that the temperature inside the storage box significantly decreases up to 29% as two fans are activated.
