TOPU's High-Pressure-Processing (HPP) Machine made for food sterilization and MLCC processes

What do a bottle of raw cold-pressed juice and a space rocket have in common?

The answer is ultra-high-pressure engineering. The exact tech used to keep rocket motors from bursting in space is now making our food safer and powering advanced electronics, solving a long-standing challenge across multiple industries.

The traditional food sterilization we are familiar with relies heavily on heat or chemical additives. The main problem, however, is that heat ruins natural flavour and strips away nutrients, while chemicals leave behind unwanted residues. To solve this, TOPU adapted rocket-grade carbon fibre winding techniques to create High-Pressure Procession (HPP) and Warm Isostatic Press (WIP) systems. In 2019, TOPU earned the globally recognized ASME U3 Certification, becoming the first ever Taiwanese company to earn this certification, and proving that high-altitude aerospace technology can deliver safer, higher-quality products right here on Earth.

Smarter Sterilization and High-Pressure Manufacturing

High-Pressure Processing (HPP) uses pure water pressure rather than heat or chemicals to sanitize products, keeping food as fresh and nutritious as the day it was harvested. By applying extreme hydrostatic pressures between 400 and 600 MPa, HPP crushes harmful microorganisms like E. coli, Listeria, and Salmonella, while also neutralizing parasites in seafood.

Because no heat is involved, HPP locks in natural taste, crisp texture, and vital vitamins without synthetic preservatives. Beyond packaged juices and ready-to-eat meats, this technology enables 100% automated oyster shucking, enzyme extraction, and natural cosmetic sterilization. Meanwhile, in advanced electronics manufacturing, Warm Isostatic Pressing (WIP) applies heated water under high pressure to eliminate microscopic air pockets in ceramic components like MLCCs, making everyday tech devices far more reliable.

Built with Rocket-Grade Engineering

Holding hundreds of megapascals of pressure requires extraordinary structural strength. TOPU applies aerospace engineering to ensure total safety and extreme durability:

  • Prestressed Steel Construction: Pressure vessels are forged from ultra-tough 17-4PH stainless steel and wrapped with tightly tensioned steel wire. A technique derived from rocket motor design that prevents structural fatigue.

  • Leak-Proof Composite Seals: Backed by U.S. and Taiwan patents, TOPU uses advanced computer simulations to design high-performance metal-polymer seals that stay completely watertight under extreme pressure.

  • ASME U3 Certified: Achieving the ASME U3 Certificate of Authorization required a rigorous year-long audit covering design calculations, material stress analysis, and safety testing to meet the world's toughest pressure standards.

Proven Industrial Results

TOPU has moved aerospace concepts out of the lab and straight onto the factory floor. The commercial 55-liter HPP system handles everything from raw pet food and cold-pressed juice to pork and earthworm enzyme extractions. To prevent pressure-induced colour changes in sensitive foods, TOPU patented a multi-stage pressure control method alongside automated shell-separating technology.

For high-tech manufacturing, the 68-litre WIP system operates at 200 MPa (roughly 2,000 times atmospheric pressure) with hot water up to 90°C to produce flawless ceramic components for modern electronics.

The Bottom Line

The engineering designed to propel rockets into orbit is now quietly safeguarding the food on your table and powering the electronic devices in your hand. By adapting aerospace winding technology for commercial use, TOPU proves that space-age science isn't light-years away, it's actually right in your kitchen, delivering safer, fresher products through extreme engineering.
